Avoid WinXP Install Issues and Trouble August 6, 2004 M. S WEINER 18 out of 22 found this review helpful
I purchased this card for a Dell Latitude laptop and my recent network configuration that included removal of a WAP11 due to failure and my BEFSR81 Router, replacing both with the WRT54GS. I wanted to install it correctly, yet I am not the type to read the instructions.
I removed the Linksys Utility and drivers for my old "B" card and rebooted my machine. I placed the "G" card in the machine and it was immediately recognized. I then enabled the device by installing the drivers from the installation CD. DON'T DO IT THIS WAY!!!
Here's what worked for me: Run the autorun feature from the CD ignoring or cancelling the XP Plug and Play routine upon reboot. Let the Linksys Configuration Utility and drivers get set up from CD. After the prompted reboot, it worked great! My router configuration uses both the WEP encryption, but also a MAC Filter function, allowing only the physical MAC address access to the wireless network. It's secure, signal strength is higher and pages "leap" on to the display (it should be noted that your mileage may vary) dependent on ISP provider or platform.

I read some of the reviews, and got convinced to bye Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster and this Adapter. This was my first ever wirless connection installation. I just read what the product manual told me to do, and the rest was taken care off by Win Xp. I have no problems so far (I have been using it for 6 months). I am using it with a compaq labtop 1500. The house I live in has concrete walls and ceilings. This could be a problem between levels but not between walls. So far all my use for the network is in one level, but if I choose to widen my network to another level in the house, I will try to set it up higher than it is now, or just get a booster for the other level.
wireless pcmia by linksys November 20, 2004 easy rider (malibu , cally) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
the card works great . some of the previous reviewers are just not computer savy . the card is usually recognized immediately by the computer . if for some reason it does not work then just go to system info and click on device manager and look to see if the driver is installed . if it is not installed it will have a yellow question mark on it . just click on that and reinstall the driver then restart your computer and voila you're connected . computer ignorance should take the blame in the previous reviews that were negative . the product works great . good luck !
thank god i did not listen to the other reviews December 3, 2004 Anthony Aviles (Kearny, nj) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got the wpc54gs after reading the others reviews with the idea that if it does not work i will just return it. i am so glad i got it. this card was easy to install. i had no problems with the card the only setup problem i had was with my was were to put the router. I can use my laptop up to 50 feet away from the router and still have an excellent signal and connection speed. So bedfore you listen to these not so handy, less able people get it try it you will love it. realy if it doesn't work for you wireless my not be the way for you right now.
Works Perfectly Out of the Box November 12, 2004 D. Lathrop (Colorado USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have no idea why these people had so many issues. I took it out of the box, plugged it all together, my laptop saw the network and connected to it.
